Mahigit dalawang buwan matapos hagupitin ng Bagyong Odette ang Siargao Island sa Surigao del Norte, ay muling magbubukas sa mga turista, simula sa bayan ng Del Carmen.
Matapos ang mahigit dalawang buwan na lugmok dahil sa Bagyong Odette, muli nang magbubukas sa mga turista ang Siargao Island.
Ang pagbuhay sa turismo ay sisimulan sa bayan ng Del Carmen.
Sinabi ni Lani Lipio ng municipal tourism operations office ng Del Carmen nitong Huwebes na ang Sugba Lagoon, isa sa mga sikat na destinasyon sa Siargao, ay bukas na sa mga turista simula bukas, Pebrero 25.

“We are open but we are also reminding tourists that not all amenities will be available such as cottages and other services. In Sugba Lagoon, we just set up a tent where tourists can temporarily shelter but we assure that the iconic diving board will be available for the visitors,” ani Lipio.
Sa mahigit 120 tourist boats na nakarehistro sa tourism office ng Del Carmen noong nakaraang taon, 50 boats lang ang operational dahil mahigit kalahati ang nasira noong bagyo.
Ang 50 bangka ay magiging available sa araw ng pagbubukas at tutungo sa mga turistang pupunta sa Sugba Lagoon, Kawhagan Island, at Sandbar, lahat sa Del Carmen.
P2,000 ang rate ng boat trip papuntang Sugba Lagoon-Kawhagan Island- Sandbar destination, habang PHP1,600 ang rate sa Sugba Lagoon.
Ani Lipio, "These rates are only for now as there will be an increase probably next month or a few months from now. Last year, we already proposed an increase effective January 2022, however because of the typhoon, we were not able to implement it."
Kamakailan lamang, ipinagpatuloy ng Philippine Airlines ang kanilang mga regular na commercial flights mula Maynila patungong Siargao Island sa Surigao del Norte.
Ang mga regular na komersyal na flight ay itinigil matapos na wasakin ni bagyo ang isla noong Disyembre noong nakaraang taon.
Ang Sayak Airport ay matatagpuan sa Del Carmen, isa sa mga nasalantang bayan sa isla.
Sa naunang panayam sa mga mamamahayag dito, kinumpirma rin ni Mayor Proserfina Matugas-Coro ng Del Carmen ang pagbubukas ng mga aktibidad sa turismo sa bayan.
“Some have already started opening up. Some are still closed as their establishments were damaged. Our tourism is already open, gradually,” ani Coro.
