Tinanggap at labis ang katuwaan ni Vice presidential candidate at Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio sa pagsuporta sa kanya ng One Cebu Party sa pamumuno ni Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia at ng mga kilalang political kingpins sa Ilocos region na kabilang sa tinatawag na “Solid North.”
Pinasalamatan ni Duterte-Carpio si Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, lider ng One Cebu Party, dahil sa pag-endorso sa kanyang kandidatura. Nagpasalamat din siya kay Narvacan Mayor Luis "Chavit" Singson, dating gobernador ng Ilocos Sur, at sa mga pulitiko sa Ilocos Region, sa suporta. Si Sara Duterte-Carpio ay kumampanya sa Ilocos region noong Miyerkules kasama si ex-Sen. Bongbong Marcos na katambal niya bilang pangulo.
Ang Cebu ay may 3.2 milyong botante. “I am thankful to One Cebu Party and Gov. Gwen Garcia for their support and endorsement of my candidacy for vice president," ani Duterte.
“The Cebuanos have always been close to my heart as my family traces its roots to Cebu. I am also very thankful for the support of the Cebuanos for President Duterte in 2016,” ani Duterte.
VP Sara, hindi 'isang kaibigan' si PBBM; nagkakilala lang dahil sa eleksyon
Gayunman, si Senate Pres. Tito Sotto, kandidato ng Partido Reporma, ay itinuturing ding anak ng Cebu dahil ang kanyang lolo na dating senador na si Sen. Vicente Sotto, ay tubong Cebu. Siya ang pinakamalapit na karibal ni Sara pagka-pangalawang pangulo.
Inanunsiyo ni House Deputy Speaker at Cebu 3rd district Rep. Pablo John Garcia, party secretary general, ang kanilang endorsement kay Duterte noong Miyerkules.
“We have always been for Sara Duterte as vice president. In fact, had she run for president, One Cebu would not have had any difficulty endorsing her candidacy. It went without saying that we supported her vice presidential bid and reaffirm our commitment to her victory in Cebu,” ayon kay Garcia.
Sinabi pa ni Garcia na tiyak na susuportahan si Sara ng halos lahat ng mga alkalde ng 44 bayan at anim na lungsod sa Cebu.
Samantala, ang One Cebu, na siyang pinakamalaking partido-pulitikal sa Cebu, ay hindi pa nag-eendorse ng presidential candidate.
