Nagpasalamat sa Muntinlupa courts ang bilanggong si Sen. Leila de Lima sa pagtugon sa kanyang kahilingan na magkaroon ng online video conference call noong Peb. 3 kasama ang kanyang 89-anyos na ina, na naka-confine sa ospital ng Naga City at na-diagnose na may coronavirus disease COVID-19) at severe pneumonia.
Noong Peb. 3, pinagbigyan ng Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 256 Judge Romeo Buenaventura at Branch 204 Judge Abraham Joseph Alcantara, ang “Extremely Urgent Motion for Online Video Conference Call” ni De Lima sa makataong batayan at urgency ng sitwasyon.
Ang dalawang korte ay humahawak sa mga kaso ni De Lima para sa pagsasabwatan sa ilegal na kalakalan ng droga na inihain ng Department of Justice noong 2017. Siya ay nakakulong sa Camp Crame mula noong 2017.
“The video call lasted for less than an hour. I wasn’t really able to talk to mommy because she was asleep during the duration of the call. There were occasional times when she opened her eyes for a few seconds, then ‘pikit’ ulit. But at least I was able to see her, and there was one or two instances that she recognized me,” sabi ng senador.

“Of course, I would have wanted to be there with her taking care of her, but that’s not possible under the current situation. Bukod sa COVID-19 at malubhang pneumonia, na-diagnose din ang kanyang ina na si Norma Magistrado de Lima na may Non-ST-elevation Myocardial Infarction (NSTEMI) at Hypertensive Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease (HASCVD).
Ayon sa website ng Cleveland Clinic sa US, , “A non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) is a type of heart attack that usually happens when your heart’s need for oxygen can’t be met. This condition gets its name because it doesn’t have an easily identifiable electrical pattern (ST elevation) like the other main types of heart attacks.”
Naghain si De Lima ng manifestation sa dalawang korte sa Muntinlupa noong Peb. 4, na nagdetalye kung ano ang nangyari sa video call kasama ang kanyang ina.
Pinasalamatan din ng senadora ang mga korte dahil sa kanilang mabilis na pagtugon at pagbibigay-halaga sa “humanitarian condition” at “urgency” ng kanyang sitwasyon.
