Ayon sa pag-aaral ng mga scientists ng National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), isang ahensya ng gobyerno sa United States, nasa ika-anim na pwesto sa 'pinakamainit na taon' ang 2021 mula 1880.
Sa tala ng NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), ang average na temperatura ng land at ocean surface ng mundo sa taong 2021 ay 1.51 degrees.
Ikinababahala ito ng mga eksperto dahil ito na ang ika-45 na magkakasunod na taon, mula 1977, nang tumaas ang temperatura ng mundo lampas sa "20th century average."
"The Northern Hemisphere’s land and ocean surface temperature was also sixth highest on record, at 1.96 degrees F (1.09 degrees C) above average. Looking at the Northern Hemisphere’s land areas only, the temperature was third warmest on record, behind 2016 (second warmest) and 2020 (the warmest)," pag-uulat ng NOAA.

"Ocean heat content (OHC), which describes the amount of heat stored in the upper-levels of the ocean, was record high in 2021, surpassing the previous record high set in 2020. The seven highest OHCs have occurred in the last seven years (2015-2021). High ocean-heat content can contribute to sea-level rise," dagdag pa nito.
Kaugnay pa rito, ang mga taon mula 2013 hanggang 2021 ay pasok sa "ten-warmest years."
Sa pag-aaral din na isinagawa ng National Aeronautics and Space Administration o NASA, pang-anim ang taong 2021 sa pinakamainit na taon, kaparehas sa taong 2018.
Samantala, sa datos naman ng Copernicus, isang European Union's Earth Observation Programme, inilista naman nila ang taong 2021 bilang ika-lima sa pinakamainit na taon.
