Binaril hanggang sa masawi ng isang baguhang pulis ang kanyang misis sa Virac, Catanduanes. Matapos tumagos sa katawan nito ang bala, tinamaan din ang kanilang tatlong taong-gulang na anak dahilan para masawi rin ito.
Pagkatapos ng insidente, isang ulat ng pulisya ang nakarating sa Camp Crame sa Quezon City kung saan sinabing nagpatiwakal din si Patrolman Jaymas Malasa matapos mapagtanto ang kanyang ginawa.
Ayon sa ulat, nagsimula ang lahat nang magkaroon ng pagtatalo ang mag-asawa nang si Malasa, miyembro ng Catanduanes 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, ay umuwi nang lasing noong Sabado, Enero 15.

Pinaalalahanan ni Gen. Dionardo Carlos, hepe ng Philippine National Police (PNP), ang mga tauhan ng pulisya na maging maingat sa paghawak ng kanilang mga baril.
“We are sorry for the loss of lives. It is with sadness that we hear about the circumstances. May this serve as a lesson for our police officers to take precautions and never put the law into their hands,” ani Carlos.
“You underwent gun safety training. Use all the learning to effectively and responsibly discharge your duty,” dagdag niya.
