Opisyal na inilunsad ng Department of Science and Technology (DOST) ang kanilang salt production at iodization project sa Batanes.
Inilunsad ng DOST-II sa pamamagitan ng Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) sa Batanes ang proyekto sa coastal municipality sa isla ng Uyugan noong Nob. 25.
“Salt production has become an indispensable activity in the local area. With that, the project aims to improve the traditional salt production process of the people in Uyugan through the use of Salt Crystallization Beds,” sabi ni DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peñasa kanyang lingguhang ulat nitong Biyernes, Dis. 10.

Ang DOST-Insustrial Technology Development Insitutute (DOST-ITDI) ang bumuo ng teknolohiya sa pag-setup ng salt evaporation at salt iodization. Ang teknolohiya sa produksyon ng asin ay ipinakilaLa sa mga lokal na negosyante noong Nob. 4.
Sinabi ng DOST chief na ang panukalang salt production facility na itatayo sa lalawigan ay ipinakita ng DOST-II sa pamamagitanh ng virtual tour.
Itatayo ang pasilidad sa tulong ng DOST II, ITDI, at ng local government unit (LGU).
