Inaprubahan ng pandemic task force ng gobyenro ang kahilingan ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) na magdaos ng nationwide mock election activities sa Dis. 29, sabi ng Palasyo.
Sa kanyang press briefing nitong Biyernes, Dis. 10, sinabi ni Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles na walang dahilan para tanggihan ng Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Diseases ang nasabing kahilingan.
Sinabi ng acting Palace spokesman na makatutulong ito na matiyak ang ligtas na pagsasagawa ng presidential elections sa Mayo 9, 2022.
“In order to ensure the safe and effective conduct of the 2022 National and Local Elections, the IATF poses no objection to the request of the Commission on Elections to conduct nationwide mock election exercises on December 29, 2021,”sabi ni Nograles.

Noong nakaraang buwan, sinabi ni Comelec Deputy Executive Director for Operations Teofisto Elnas Jr. na ang ahensya ay magsasagawa ng “end-to-end demonstration ng buong proseso.
“We will test on how accurate, true, and secure the [election] process,” sabi ni Elnas sa isang online forum na inilunsad ng election watchdog group National Citizens for Free Elections (Namfrel).
Dagdag ni Elnas, ang mga resulta ay bibilangin, ipadadala at matatanggap sa iba’t ibang destinasyon.
“This is where we would be able to test our VCMs (vote-counting machines), from the start, opening until voting, consolidation of results, then printing of election returns and also the printing of the voting receipts,” sabi nito.
Noong Dis. 8, natanggap ng Comelec ang kumpletong software na gagamitin para i-automate ang 2022 elections. Ang mga thumb drive ay nakaimbak sa isang vault ng Information Department ng Comelec.
Ibibigay ang thumb drive sa Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) ayon sa mandato ng Poll Automation Law. Sinabi ni Comelec spokesman James Jimenez na ito ay upang matiyak ang integridad ng software.
“This deposit of the source code in escrow of BSP is to ensure there is a trusted copy of the final trusted build, and will not be open to tampering or any possible alteration of anyone,” sabi ni Jimenez sa naganap na turnover ng pinal na software sa Comelec.
