Hinimok ni Senador Richard Gordon ang gobyerno nitong Martes na payagan ang Filipino journalist na si Maria Ressa na tanggapin ang kanyang Nobel Peace prize award sa Norway.
Sinabi ni Gordon, na namumuno sa Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights, na ang parangal na iginawad kay Ressa ay kauna-unahan sa Pilipinas at para sa isang Pilipinong mamamahayag na nararapat umano ipagdiwang sa kabila ng pagkakaiba sa politika.
“To many of us, the prestigious award conferred to Ressa, a historic first for the Philippines, sets the momentum in the right direction of our individual and collective efforts to allow a culture of truth-telling to prevail in our country,” ani Gordon.
“By her dedication and personal sacrifice, she truly deserves all support for such global distinction,” dagdag pa niya.
Magpinsang paslit nagkayayaang maligo sa lawa, nalunod
Kamakailan, tinutulan ng gobyerno, sa pamamagitan ng Office of the Solicitor General, ang kahilingan ni Ressa na magtungo sa Oslo, Norway na kung saan nakatakda niyang tanggapin ang kanyang Nobel Peace Prize sa Disyembre 10.
Humingi ng permiso si Ressa sa gobyerno dahil umano sa kasong libel at tax evasion na kinakaharap nya ngayon.
Sinabi ni Gordon na dapat ituring ng gobyerno si ressa bilang isang indibidwal na nagdala ng karangalan sa bansa sa pamamagitan ng pagsasabi umano ng katotohanan.
“Let us then allow the first Filipino Nobel laureate to bring pride and honour to our country and speak on behalf of the freedom-loving and peace-seeking Filipino people who continually fight unflagging attempts to manufacture and spread lies and disinformation rewriting our history and muzzle all those who are critical of government policies,” paglalahad niya.“The only risk the government should be concerned about is its flight from reason that, if allowed, would put the country into further embarrassment before the eyes of the international community,” aniya pa.
Kabilang si Gordon sa mga senador na humimok sa Senado na bigyan ng Senate Medal of Excellence si Ressa dahil sa pagbibigay ng dangal sa bansa.
