Nagsimula nang maghanda ang Philippine National Police (PNP) para sa anumang pagbabago sa pagpapatupad ng quarantine protocols sa gitna banta ng bagong variant na tinatawag ngayon ng World Health Organization (WHO) na Omicron.

Ayon kay PNP chief Gen. Dionardo Carlo na ang mahigpit na pagpapatupad ng quarantine protocols ay hindi na bago, dahil ito ay ipinatupad na noong Marso ng nakaraan na taon at sa gitna ng Delta variant.

“We’ve been there, done that. The implementation of the strictest quarantine protocol is not new to us and the PNP is always ready to go back to our deployment template,” ani Carlos.

Ngunit ang nagpapahirap, ayon kay Carlos, ay ang kasalukuyang sitwasyon na kung saan patungo ang bansa sa panahon ng eleksyon.

“There will be mobilization of supporters but we need to strike a balance between allowing them to freely express their inherent political right and the need to suppress the spread of the virus,” ani Carlos.

“Once this happens, we will seek the guidance of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on the possible adjustment in the campaign guidelines,” dagdag pa niya.

Iniutos na ng gobyerno ang travel ban mula sa papasok na pasahero mula sa South Africa at iba pang mga bansa na kung saan na-detect ang Omicron variant.

Ang Omicron variant ay mas nakahahawa kaysa Delta variant.

“The PNP has been willing to coordinate, too, with other agencies in providing security to the different entry points of the country,” ani Carlos.
