Nasa tatlong milyong senior citizens sa bansa ang hindi pa rin nababakunahan laban sa coronavirus disease (COVID-19), ayon sa isang opisyal ng World Health Organization nitong Lunes, Oktubre 25.
Ito ang binunyag ni WHO representative to the Philippines Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe sa isang public briefing habang pinunto ang pangangailangang mabakunahan ang populasyon ng mga seniors bago itaguyod ang third dose ng COVID-19 vaccines.
“In this allocation of third dose, we continue to urge that priority should be given to offer first and second dose to who have not had access to vaccines and then we start the third dose administration with the most elderly,” ani Abeyasinghe.
Para magawa ito, dapat mag-umpisa ang third dose vaccine administration sa mga severely immunocompromised na susundan ng mga indibidwal na may edad 80 taong-gulang, pagkatapos ay mga indibidwal na nasa 70 taong-gulang at panghuli ang mga may edad 60 taong-gulang.

“This is what our position is now so that we maximize the benefit of the third dose in those groups who will be receiving third dose,”sabi ni Abeyasinghe.
“But again the priority is to provide the first and second doses to those who have not been able to get a single shot, which is about three million people unfortunately still in the Philippines among the elderly,” dagdag ng WHO official.
Base sa National COVID-19 Vaccination Dashboard, nasa kabuuang 4,596,925 senior citizens sa ilalim ng A2 priority group na ang bakunado laban sa COVID-19 mula Oktubre 24.
Samantala, sinabi ni Abeyasinghe na ang rekomendasyon ng WHO ng third dose para sa mga immunocompromised ay dahil hindi nila kayang mag-develop at mapanatili ang level of immnunity na kailangan para maiwasan ang severe disease at pagkamatay.
Dagdag niya, naglabas din ang WHO ng rekomendasyon na magturok ng third dose sa mga nakatanggap ng Chinese vaccine na Sinovac at Sinopharms.
“We have said that our position now is that a third may be provided to immunocompromised people if they finished their two doses,” sabi ng opisyal
“And then we will also recommend a third dose for elderlies of above 60 years who received either Sinovac or Sinopharm vaccines,” dagdag nito.
