Maaaring i-audit ng Commission on Audit (COA) ang Philippine Red Cross (PRC) kaugnay ng mga natanggap na subsidiya mula sa pamahalaan katulad ng mga ibinigay ng Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).
“Under the Constitution the COA has the power to examine on a post-audit basis all accounts pertaining to the expenditure or use of fundby any non-governmental entity receiving subsidy or equity, directly or indirectly, from or through the government. The Philippine Red Cross is one such entity receiving subsidy or equity from the government through the instrumentality of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office," tugon ni Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra nang kapanayamin ng mga mamamahayag nitong Huwebes, Setyembre 9.
Ang pahayag ni Guevarra ay bilang pagsuporta sa naging paninindigan ng Malacañang na maaaring magsagawa ng special audit ang COA laban sa PRC na pinamumunuan ni Senator Richard Gordon.
Kamakailan, inihayag ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na ipag-uutos nito sa COA na i-audit ang PRC sa gitna ng away nila ni Gordon.

Pirmado ni dating DBM-Procurement Service chief Christopher Lloyd Lao ang kontrata. Si Lao ay fraternity brother ni Duterte.
