Inilunsad ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) ang voter registration sa mga SM malls na ginanap sa SM Mall of Asia sa Pasay City nitong Biyernes, Agosto 27.

“We are happy to host once again the registration in malls similar to what we have done in 2012,” ani Steven Tan, president ng SM Supermalls.

“We are one with the government in providing accessible sites for registration especially during this time when most areas are in stringent lockdown. Our malls will serve as safe centers for registration and help achieve the goal to register as many citizens as possible," dagdag pa niya.

Ayon naman kay Comelec Commissioner Aimee Ferolino, ang oras ng voter registration sa mga malls ay nakadepende sa local election officer.

“The time of registration will depend on the coordination with the local election officer. Usually they will take into consideration the time of mall hours,” ani Ferolino.

Samantala, hindi posibleng magkaroon ng voter registration tuwing Linggo.

“That (proposal) is highly unlikely (to be granted)," aniComelec spokesperson James Jimenez.

“Right now, we are already doing six days. Let us give our people time to rest also,” dagdag pa niya.

Matatandaan na pinalawig ng Comelec ang voter registration hours simula noong Agosto 23 sa lahat ng Offices of Election Officers (OEOs) na simula 8 a.m. hanggang 7 p.m., Lunes hanggang Biyernes.

Habang 8 a.m. hanggang 5 p.m. naman tuwing Sabado at Holidays.
