Nanawagan ang isang grupo ng kabataan sa Commission on Elections (Comelec) na palawigin pa ang voters’ registration upang makapagparehistro ang mga naapektuhan ng pandemya “sa mas maayos at ligtas na panahon.”

Sinabi ng College Editors Guild of the Philippines (CEGP) sa isang pahayag, na marami pang mga kabataan ang nais magparehistro ngunit hindi magawa dahil sa pandemya.

“As the COVID-19 Delta variant endangers aspiring voters’ lives at risk should they try to register at this crucial time, the CEGP shall stand with the future voters still willing to get registered during the pandemic at a safer period, for every Filipino citizen should still be able to vote regardless of their economic standing,”ayon sa grupo.

“Not extending the voter registration period would put thousands, if not millions, of future voters unable to exercise the right to suffrage just because they prioritized health and safety over registering within an inconvenient, constrained time,”dagdag pa nito.

Binigyang-diin ng CEGP na ang pagpapalawig ng voters’ registration ay isang paraan ng Comelec upang “isaalang-alang ang kalusugan ng mga botante.”

Sususpindihin ng Comelec ang voters’ registration sa mga lugar na isasailalim sa enhanced community quarantine.

Ang pagpaparehistro ay tatagal hanggang Setyembre 30.
