ORMOC CITY - Nakatakdang magpatupad ng pork holiday ang pamahalaang lungsod kasunod nang pagkumpirma ng pamahalaang lungsod sa unang kaso ng African Swine Fever (ASF) sa kanilang lugar upang hindi na lumaganap pa ng sakit.
Ito ang kinumpirma ni City Mayor Richard Gomez na nagsabing sinimulan na nila ang pagkatay ng 281 na baboy mula sa Barangay Salvacion at Brgy. Bantigue, 500 metro ang layo mula sa lugar kung saan naitala ang sakit.
"We tried to control the entry of ASF in the city but it caught up in our brgys. and hit the backyard piggeries. The pork holiday is our way of controlling the spread of the infection in Ormoc. It was recommended by our veterinarian to hold the slaughter of pigs for consumption. We have been investigating and monitoring other brgys., and if we need to cull infected swine, then we must," sabi pa nito.
