Nais siyasatin ng Makabayan bloc sa kongreso ang mga “troll farms” na sinasabing may banta sa demokrasya, lalo na kung ito ay ginagamit upang siraan at i-harass ang mga kritiko ng administrasyong Duterte.
Sa House Resolution 1900 na isinampa kamakailan, sinabi ng anim na miyembro ng Makabayan bloc na dapat suriin ng kongreso ang mga pinagkukunan ng pondo para sa operasyon ng mga troll farms.
Binanggit ni House Deputy Minority Leader at Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate, ang isiniwalat ni Senador Panfilo Lacson nitong nakaraang linggo na isang incumbent undersecretary ang nagsimulang magtayo ng dalawang troll farms sa bawat lalawigan.
“We have to know whether public funds are being used in these operations and whether these are also the ones spearheading the massive red-tagging campaign against progressives, media, church people, lawyers, critics and the opposition,” ayon kay Zarate.
Gastos ng mga biktima ng SUV na nang-araro sa NAIA, sasagutin ng San Miguel Corp.
“If public time and resources are involved, these are not just wasting taxpayers money but even criminal acts just to malign and harass anyone who criticizes the Duterte administration,” paliwanag niya.
Ayon kay Zarate ang modus operandi ng troll farms “is very similar to what Facebook detected of FB accounts linked to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and other based in China that engage in coordnated inauthentic behavior (CIB).”
Babala niya, “To launch this kind of troll operations in a nationwide scale and for at least a year it would take millions and even billions of pesos.” Dineklara ni Zarate na ang troll farms ay “very dangerous to our democracy” dahil makagagawa sila ng “false clamor for a fake presidential candidate.”
Ayon kay Zarate, may posibilidad na ang susunod na pangulo ay isa sa nag-install ng mga troll farms sa pamamagitan ng mga hindi totoo at hindi patas na mga post sa social media.
