Sinabi ng Department of Health (DOH) nitong Martes na inirerekomenda nilang magpataw ng mga paghihigpit sa paglalakbay sa mga bansa na may naiulat na kaso ng bagong coronavirus variant.

Sinabi ni Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire na ang rekomendasyon ay subject for the approval ng Office of the President.

“We have recommended that there should be a travel ban also for 14 days, aside from the UK (United Kingdom), for these other countries that have already been identified with the new variant,” sinabi ni Vergeire sa press briefing.

“Ilalabas palang ng Office of the President yung guidelines. So we will await that---for the final approval and guidelines and the effectivity of such,” dagdag niya.

Sinabi ni Vergeire na ang Phillipine Genome Center ay nagsimula nang magsagawa ng genome sequencing upang matukoy kung nakapasok na sa bansa ang bagong variant.

“The Philippine Genome Center has started receiving samples coming from our laboratories---those coming from UK and from the other affected countries,” aniya.

Sinabi din ng tagapagsalita ng DOH na mayroong 85 mga manlalakbay mula sa UK, na dumating sa Pilipinas bago ang travel restriction. Kabilang sa mga ito, ang isang nagpositibo sa COVID-19.

“Among these 85, ang meron na tayong resulta ay 82. Eighty-one ay negative, one is positive, yung tatlo--pending pa rin. We will wait for the results of these three pending,” aniya.

OFWs exempted

Ang mga Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) ay makakauwi at magpalipas ng pista opisyal kasama ang kanilang pamilya dahil sila ay exempted mula sa patakaran ng gobyerno na nagbabawal sa mga manlalakbay mula sa United Kingdom at 20 iba pang mga bansa na may mga kaso ng bagong Covid 19 strain mula sa pagpasok sa Philipines, Labor Secretary Silvestre Sinabi ni Bello III noong Martes.

Sinabi niya na ang Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) against Covid 19 ay inirekomenda ng total ban sa mga manlalakbay mula sa 21 apektadong mga bansa ngunit binigyan ng espesyal na pagsasaalang-alang ni Pangulong Duterte ang mga OFW na nag-ambag ng P1.6 trilyon sa pambansang ekonomiya

“That’s the decision of the President. He was very firm in deciding that the restriction will only apply to other travelers...He exempted our OFWs. He said:’I want our OFWs to go home to their families,’” sinabi ni Bello sa virtual press briefing.

“If they are not an OFW they are covered by the exemption. They are covered by the restriction imposed by the Inter Agency Task Force,” dagdag niya.

Sa kanilang pag-uwi, sinabi ni Bello na ang mga OFW na exempted mula sa restriction ay dapat sumailalim sa 14 na araw ng quarantine sa mga pasilidad ng gobyerno sa kanilang pagdating.

“Even if they had swab test and found to be negative from the virus, they are still required to be quarantined for 14 days,” dagdag niya.
