UMAASA si Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Chairman Abraham ‘Baham’ Mitra sa muling pagsigla ng professional boxing sa bansa sa pagbabalik ng aksiyon simula ngayon hatid ng Cebu-based Omegal Boxing Promotions.

Kagyat na kumilos ang nag-organisa ng boxing cards, tampok ang tatlong 10-rounder ang Omega matapos payagan ng Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) ang rekomendasyon ng GAB sa pagbabalik ng boxing at iba pang contact sports batay sa mahigpit na pagpapatupad ng health protocol na nakasaad sa Joint Administrative Order (JAO) na binuo ng GAB, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) at Department of Health (DOH).

“We are hoping that it will be successful and safe as it’s a signal that boxing is back in the Philippines. With this we are hoping other promoters follow and put up cards soon in MGCQ (Modified General Community Quarantine) areas,” pahayag ni Mitra.

“This does not only signal that boxing is back but the bigger picture is the Philippines is adopting to the new normal and almost back on its feet in general,” aniya.

Magsasagupa sa 10-rounders sina Omega’s Ronnie Vicelles (Visproba Light Fly Champion) kontra Baguio’s Junel Lacar sa light flyweight; habang magtutuos sina Christian Araneta at Richard Rosales ng Bohol sa light flyweight, at sasabak si Penitente Apolinar (sparmate ni Japanese champion Inoue) kontra Cagayan de Oro’s Jetro Pabustan sa featherweight.

Magkakasubukan naman sa nagiisang 6-rounder match sina Carlo Bacaro at Cebuano Jeffrey Stella sa welterweight class.

“It took almost 2 months to prepare as Omega’s Jerome Calatrava made sure all protocols were observed. The fight definitely will set the tone for other coming local boxing fights. We hope that there would more boxing fights in the near future, which will not only be as exciting but most importantly as compliant/observant as possible with IATF/DOH/GAB health and safety protocols,” sambit ni Mitra.
