MIES, Switzerland (AP) – Ipinahayag ng International Basketball Federation (FIBA) ang pagpanaw ni FIB A Secretary General Emeritus Borislav Stankovic, nitong Biyeres sa edad na 94.

Nanilbihan si Stankovic bilang FIBA’s second Secretary General mula 1976 hanggang 2002 at miyembro ng International Olympic Committee (IOC). Kinilala siya bilang FIBA’s Secretary General Emeritus noong 2003.

“On behalf of FIBA, I wish to express our deepest sympathies and pass on our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Stankovic’s family, friends and loved ones,” pahayag ni FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis.

“Whether as participant to the first-ever World Cu p g ame i n 1950, as organizer of the first-ever World Cup taking place in Europe (Yugoslavia, 1970) or as leader of the International B a s k e t b a l l F e d e r a t i o n for a quarter of a century, B o r i s l a v Stankovic will always be one of the most important figures in the history of our sport. We are eternally grateful to him for all he did in implementing concrete changes without which FIBA would not be where it is today,’ aniya.

Na g - a r a l s i y a n g Veterinary Medicine sa University of Belgrade, at naging passion ang basketball.

Bilang player, sinadigan niya ang Red Star Belgrade sa dalawang national titles (1946 and 1947) at naging miyembrop ng Yugoslavia Team sa 36 na pagkakataon, kabilang ang inaugural FIBA Basketball World Cup noong 1950 sa Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Bilang coach, sinadigan niya ang OKK Belgrade sa apat na Yugoslavian league titles at ang Oransoda team sa Italian league title.
