MAHIGIT dalawang dekada na ang nakalipas nang umere ang youth oriented show na Tabing Ilog, Marso 14, 1999 at nagtapos noong Oktubre 2003. Dito nakilala ang mga sumikat na artistang sina John Lloyd Cruz, Jodi Sta. Maria, Paula Peralejo, Paolo Contis, Desiree del Valle, Patrick Garcia, Baron Geisler at Kaye Abad.
At dahil sa success ng programang ito ay gagawin itong musical na Tabing Ilog, The Musical na gaganapin sa Marso 7 hanggang Abril 26 sa ABS-CBN Dolphy Theater, ABS-CBN Compound.
Tulad ng dating cast ng Tabing Ilog ay pawang hindi masyadong kilala pa ang mga magsisiganap sa musical dahil ang ilan sa kanila ay produkto ng reality shows tulad ng Star Hunt, MNL 48 at Pinoy Big Brother. Ang kagandahan lang ay may makakasama silang theater actors sa play.
Ayon sa business unit head at executive producer ng show na si Raymund Dizon, “The challenge now is that the teenagers have evolved. How do we know better the teens of today? What are their challenges, their aspirations? When we revive the show, we wanted to make sure that it’s relevant to both the youth and the people who grew up with the original show.”

Piling-pili ang mga gaganap sa Tabing Ilog The Musical dahil panay ang voice training nila at ‘yung ibang kasama ay may mga experience na sa play kaya hindi na sila nahihirapan pa.
Ang mga bibida sa musical ay produkto ng Star Hunt at theater actors din tulad nina Kiara Takahashi, Abi Kassem at Gab Pangilinan na gaganap bilang Eds delos Santos (Kaye); Sky Quizon, Hanie Jarar at Ian Pangilinan bilang Rovic Mercado (John Lloyd); at sina Batit Espiritu at Emjay Savilla bilang Badong Magtibay (Paolo).
Gagampanan naman nina Jem Macatuno, Gian Wang, at Gabby Sarmiento ang karakter na James Collantes (Patrick); Argel Saycon ng Star Hunt, Ellyson de Dios at theater actor Vino Malabot as Fonzy Ledesma (Baron).
Mula naman sa MNL48 sina Abby Trinidad, Belle Delos Reyes at theater actress Mia Canton na gaganap bilang si George Fuentebella (Jodi); kasama rin sina Lou Yanong, Missy Quino at theater actress Teetin Villanueva na gaganap na Corinne Ledesma (Desiree); Shawntel Cruz, theater actresses Krystal Kane at Justine Narciso sa papel na Jerry Ricafort (Mylene Dizon); Art Guma, Ian Hermogenes, theater actor Franco Ramos as Ely; gaganap na Sammy Collantes sina Brei Binuya mula MNL48, Star Hunt at Theater actors Noel Comia at Lie Reposposa.
Ang artistic teams na bumuo ng “Tabing Ilog Musical Play” ay mula sa iba’t ibang grupo mula sa Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), Red Turnip, Dulaang UP at Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Ang mga direktor at composer, musical director na magutulong ay kinabibilangan nina Vincent de Jesus, Topper Fabregas , JM Cabling at Jade Castro.
Samantala, natanong ang mga direktor kung may guest silang original cast ng Tabing Ilog para iselebra na rin ang 20 years anniversary ng show.
“Abangan po natin, but’s a good idea,”sabi nila.
