INILUNSAD kamakailan ng lokal na pamahalaan ng Taguig ang unang disaster visibility information system na magbibigay ng “real-time updates” hinggil sa lagay ng panahon, bagyo, kalamidad at iba pang impormasyong makaaapekto sa lahat 28 barangay sa buong lungsod.

Ayon kay Mayor Lino Cayetano ang Taguig Weather Monitoring System (TWMS), ay ang unang uri ng teknolohiya sa bansa, na magbibigay ng round-the-clock updates mula sa mga camera na nakapalibot sa 100 lokasyon.

“This is a breakthrough in the country’s disaster preparedness because it provides localized and area-specific updates and we are happy Taguig is part of this historic occasion The technology also allows us to monitor other things like the quality of the air. Pwede namin i-warn yung mga kababayan namin na maysakit kung sakali na hindi maganda ang air qualitysa isang lugar,” pagbabahagi ni Cayetano.

Dagdag pa ni Cayetano, ang proyekto ay bahagi ng pagsisikap ng lokal na pamahalaan upang gawing isang smart city ang Taguig.

Sa pamamagitan ng inisyatibo, gagamit ang lokal na pamahalaan ng 100 camera upang ma-monitor ang iba’t ibang sitwasyon sa lungsod.

Maaaring magamit ang sistema para sa localized flood monitoring, hazard mapping at maging sa pang-araw-araw na pagbibigay ng mahalagang impormasyon na aagapay sa impormasyon mula sa mnga ahensiya ng pamahalaan tulad ng Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration at Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Partikular na maibibigay ng sistema, ang pagpapakita sa sentro ng bagyo sa isang tiyak na lugar, upang makapag-ulat ng lagay ng panahon.

May earthquake analytics din ang sistema na maaaring magpakita ng tiyak na layo ng epicenter ng isang lindol mula sa isang tiyak na siyudad.

Ayon kay alkalde, malapit na ring mapakinabangan ng mga residente ang

mobile application ng sistema.

“Right now the website is available to everyone. We will have daily updates (from the) I Love Taguig Facebook (page) and then within 30 to 60 days, I will ask the weather monitoring system of Taguig to be able to develop an application (which can be used by our residents) but right now, (anyone can just visit the website) to check or to go to I Love Taguig Facebook,” ani Cayetano said.

“We think it is very important especially for school principals, village chiefs and heads of private sector offices. There are a lot of times when they have to decide for their constituents, they have to decide for their students, they have to decide for their employees. What we are doing is to empower them to decide based on the data acquired,” paliwanag pa niya.

Nabanggit din niya ang mabubuong weather monitoring team ng lungsod para sa pagpapakalat ng tiyak na impormasyon sa mga stakeholders.

“In fact, what we want to do is to work with DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government) so that after Taguig City has piloted this, we want to show that the amount to be spent is small compared to the benefits. It is really important that we have an “always ready” approach when it comes to disasters. Hopefully, all our cities (in the country will) have localized a weather monitoring system,” ani Cayetano.
