SA isa pang pagkakataon, nagdiwang ang sambayanan sa muling pagdomina ng Team Philippines matapos makamit ang overall championship sa katatapos na 30th Southeast Asian Games.

At ang tagumpay ng atletang Pinoy ay resulta ng kabayanihan ng lahat, particular ang sambayanan sa suportang ibinigay sa atletang Pinoy sa lahat ng events sa iba’t ibang venues.

“ It is a happy day for the Philippine Sports Commission, Team Philippines and the country as we celebrate our return to SEAG supremacy.

We all worked hard for this. The Philippine Olympic Committee, national sports associations, the Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee, the government, the private sector and the Filipino people all came together to show our team that they have the whole nation rooting for them. Salamat po sa lahat,” pahayag ni Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman ang PH Team Chief of Mission William ‘Butch’ Ramirez.

“Our athletes gave their all and they deserve all the respect and care that we can give them, as kababayans and as a nation. You all made us proud. Salamat sa inyong sakripisyo, tiyaga at pagpupursigi.

“All your hard work and achievement produced more than just medals. It lifted the spirit of a nation hungry for inspiration and hope. It awakened the spirit of patriotism. Old Filipino values were in full show for the Filipino youth to see and emulate. Pinaalala niyo sa amin na ang sarap maging Pilipino, lahi ng magigiting!!! For all these, maraming salamat!

“Congratulations to our overall champions!” pahayag ni Ramirez.

Ito ang ikalawang pagkakataon na nakamit ng bansa ang overall championship bilang host at nagkataon si Ramirez rin ang PSC Chairman sa matagumpay na kampanya noong 2005.

“Our athletes gave their all and they deserve all the respect and care that we can give them, as kababayans (countrymen) and as a nation. You all made us proud. Salamat sa inyong sakripisyo, tiyaga at pagpupursigi (Thank you for your sacrifices, patience and determination),” aniya.

Nakamit ng Team Philippines ang korona tangan ang 149 ginto, 117 silver at 121 bronze medals sa kabuuang 530 events mula sa 56 sports na nilaro sa biennial meet.

“They showed us that with proper support and encouragement, they will deliver. I am proud that they proved that my faith in them was well-placed. But this is just the beginning. I see better things ahead for Philippine sports. And the Philippine Olympic Committee will partner with both government and private sectors to ensure this will indeed happen. Next stop- the Olympics!
