KUMPIYANSA si Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman at Team Philippine Chef de Mission William “Butch” Ramirez na kakayanin ng mga atletang Pinoy na mapagtagumpayan ang hosting ng bansa ng 30th Southeast Asian Games, na opisyal na magsisismula ngayon araw na ito sa Philippine Arena.

Sinabi ng PSC chief na sa determinasyon, sakripisyo at lakas na ipinapamalas ng buong T e am P h i l i p p i n e s , naniniwala siya ipapanalo ng nasabing koponan ang kampanyang ito ng bansa para sa biennial meet.

“With the country officially pulling back the curtains to welcome everyone to the greatest athletic show in the Southeast Asian region this year – the 30th Southeast Asian Games, I would like to share some thoughts as a 69 year old who has been given the privilege to witness first-hand the, and at times be part of, our colored sporting history,” pahayag ni Ramirez.

“We will have 11 days of competition, and I can see the 1496-strong Philippine contingent fighting it out with their every breath and exerting their effort to the last drop of their sweat to bring honor to this country, in front of their very own blood and flesh,” ayon pa sa PSC chief.

Wala umanong iniwan ang henerasyon ngayon ng mga atletang Pilipino sa mga naunang bayaning atleta ng bansa na inuuna ang sakripisyo upang mabigyan ng karangalan ang Pilipinas simula pa man noon.

“From our forebears who have shown the skillfulness of the Filipino athlete and our natural inc l inat ion to be ing champions, I have faith that our present breed of athletes will also meet their destiny with success,” ayon kay Ramirez.

Sinabi din ni Ramirez na tulung-tulong ang buong PSC Board upang ma i p a g k a l o o b a n g suportang kinakailangan ng mga atleta buhat noong sa paghahanda pa lamang at higit pa nga ngayon na sumasabak na ang mga ito.

“The PSC board has been working very hard to give every possible support that we can muster as a small agency under the Office of the President. The men and women of the PSC have been working 24/7 to be able to extend assistance in the different areas of preparation to the Games,” ani Ramirez.

Pormal na magbubukas ang biennial meet ngayon sa payak, ngunit makulay na opening ceremony sa Philippine Arena sa Bulacan.

Kamakailan nga ay binuksan na rin ang limang sports facilities na ipinahiram ng PSC para magamit bilang venue sa pagsasagawa ng SEA Games, kung saan pitong sports ay nakatakdang laruin sa mga bagong gawang Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Ninoy Aquino Stadium, Teacher’s Camp sa Baguio at Philsports sa Pasig.

B u k o d d i t o a y ipinagawa din ng PSC ang walo pang non-SEAG facilities o mga lugar na hindi pagdaraosan ng laro, ngunit magagamit bilang, media center, secretariat pati na rin ang mga dormitoryo.
