INAASAHANG magiging maaksyon ang gaganaping test event sa athletics bukas Oktubre 26 hanggang 27 sa New Clark City bilang paghahanda ng 30th Southeast Asian Games.

Sasabak ang 72-member ng Philippine athletics’ team kontra sa mga pambato ng mga bansang Thailand, Malaysia at Vietnam sa bagong gawa na athletics’ stadium sa New Clark City Pampanga.

“During the test games, I expect our athletes to be smart enough to get a good feel of their opponents’ real worth and how much more they have to do during the actual SEA Games,” pahayag ni Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association president na si Philip Juico.

Kalahati sa 48 events sa athletics na lalaruin sa SEA Games ang susubukan na iaro sa nasabing test events, kung saan may 15 kalahok bawat entry.

Ayon kay Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William Ramirez na ang nasabing test tournament ay magbibigay sa mga Filipino athletes ng karagdagang kumpiyansa bago ang nalalapit na kompetisyo ng biennial meet.

“Our athletes need all the exposures they could get to take the pressures off them. It’s part of the process to make them familiar with the competition. That’s why the PSC has been supportive of their foreign stints and training,” ani Ramirez.

Kabilang sa mga pambato ng bansa para sa atheltics ay ang pole-vaulter na si Ernest John Obiena, ang kauna-unahang Pinoy athletes na nakapasok sa 2020 Tokyo Olympics , kasama ang mga Fil-Am bets na sina Kristina Knott at Zion Corrales-Nelson,.

Kasama rin para sa men’s division ang mga sprinters na sina Eric Cray at Anfernee Lopena para sa 100-meter dash, pati na si Michael del Prado at Jayme Sequito para sa 400-meters, Carter Lilly at Marco Vilog para sa 800-m, Mariano Masano at Said Guermali para sa 1500-m, Clinton Bautista at Alvin Vergel para sa 100-meter hurdles at Francis Medina para sa 400-m hurdles.

Para sa 100-meter relays sasabak naman sina Cray, Bautista, Yuher Go, Jomar Udtohan at Vince Buhayan, habang si Sequito ay sasabak naman para sa 400-meter relays kasama si Del Prado, Udtohan, Edgardo Alejan, Frederick Ramirez at Reymond Alferos.

Sa women’s division ay sasabak naman sina Kayla Richardson (400-m), Marisol Amargo (800-m), Melissa Escoton at si Jely Paraguile (100-m hurdles), pati na sina Robyn Brown, Bernalyn Bejoy(400-m hurdles), Joida Gagnao (3000-meter steeplechase) at pole vaulters Alyanna Nicolas at Natalie Uy.

Bukod sa mga nabanggit na atleta, makakasama sa koponan nina Nelson, Knott, Kayla at Kyla Richardson para sa 100-meter relay team, kasama sina Eloisa Luzon at Escoton. Jessel Lumapas at Maureen Schrijvers ay bahagi naman ng 400-meter relay squad.
