NAKATAKDA ng simulan ang pagtatayo ng pinakaunang Hydrogen Optimization HyStar Manufacturing Project sa Tabangao Shell Refinery, Batangas City kasunod ng groundbreaking ceremony nito kamakailan.

Inilarawan ng mga opisyal ng Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation (PSPC) ang proyekto bilang “another milestone in industrial development” at “an innovative venture into an environment-friendly industry intended to boost the fuel production in the country.”

Inihayag naman ni Shell Refinery Business Opportunity and Business Development Manager Paolo Barredo na ang HyStar ay isang partnership project ng Shell at Air Liquide na idinisenyo upang magkaroon ng isang hydrogen manufacturing unit facility na magsu-supply ng hydrogen sa refinery upang makapagproseso ito ng mas maraming advantaged feedstocks.

“This is the first of its kind in the Philippines and is targeted to be operational next year. This means more options for crude to allow us to produce more quality fuels for consumers,” paliwanag ni Barredo.

Inihayag din nito na bumibili ang Shell ng hindi pa repinadong krudo para iproseso at maging diesel at gasolina na ibinebenta naman sa mga istasyon ng langis.

Kapag natapos ang proyekto, ayon kay Barredo magkakaroon ng produksyon ng sobrang hydrogen na kinakailangan ng planta, isang adbentahe para sa pagpoproseso ng produksyon.

“This project allows us to have more options when problem in the supply of crude happens in case trouble erupts in the Middle East,”dagdag nito.

Sinigurado naman niya na bilang bahagi ng normal na proseso ng planta, ang hydrogen manufacturing unit ay maglalabas ng carbon dioxide (CO²) sa ating kapaligiran, ngunit dahil sa facility project partnership, ang CO² na isang pollutant sa ating paligid ay kukuhanin ng Air Liquide upang magamit sa kapaki-pakinabang na paraan tulad ng produksyon ng mga softdrinks.

Ayon kay Shell Tabangao Refinery General Manager Jan-Peter Groot Wassink, pinasinayaan ng mga opisyal ng kumpanya at pamahalaan ang groundbreaking rites ng “new chapter in the history of Tabangao Shell Refinery where Shell has been a responsible partner in the community and contributes to nation-building”.

Ipinunto naman ni Shell Companies in the Philippines Country Chairman Cesar Romero na ang proyekto ay pruweba ng patuloy na pagtupad ng tungkulin ng Shell sa bansa at sa Lungsod ng Batangas at sa kakayahan nito na makipagtulungan sa mga bigating industriya tulad ng Air Liquide na mayroon ng 117 taong karanasan sa industriya ng industrial gas.

Malugod namang sinalubong ni City Mayor Beverly Rose Dimacuha ang bagong proyektong magaganap sa kanyang lungsod at siniguro na ang pamahalaang panlungsod ay patuloy at malakas na makikipagtulungan sa mga kumpanya ng langis at mga mamumuhunan.

“Let us continue to have a strong partnership, together we continue to carve a bright future for Batangas City and the entire country,” pahayag ng pinuno ng lungsod.

Samantala, pinapurihan naman ng Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), na kinakatawan ni Board of Investments (BOI) Governor Angelica Mapua-Cayas, ang pagtutulungan ng dalawang multinational companies.

“This is a testament to the country’s conduciveness to investments with its minimal environmental impact and state-of-the-art technology,” pahayag ni Cayas.

Nagpahatid din si Batangas 5th District Rep. Marvey Mariño ng pagmamalaki para sa Batangas City bilang una sa bansa na magkaroon ng ganitong uri ng proyekto, na nangangahulugan ng mas maraming trabaho para sa mga Batangueños.

“Indeed, the city is the best place for this project because investors are given importance here. Shell can count on our support for this undertaking and their succeeding projects,” diin ni Mariño.
