ANG potensiyal upang higit pang maisulong ang “cooperativism” ay mahalaga upang masolusyunan ang kahirapan at malabanan ang mga inhustisya sa lipunan ng bansa.

“Cooperativism has relevance as a counter bearing force against poverty, social injustice, destruction of the environment, violent extremism,” pahayag ni Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) chairman Orlando Ravanera sa isang panayam sa pagdiriwang ng International Day for Cooperatives.

“Those who have dreamed of social change struggled, sacrificed and even died. The social transformation has been so elusive all these years despite 14 years under martial law and the People Power Revolution because the system and ingredients that are breeding poverty is as formidable as ever. But not anymore now because President Rodrigo Duterte has considered cooperatives as the key to a social transformation,” aniya.

Sa unang bahagi ng panunungkulan ng kasalukuyang administrasyon, iniulat ni Ravanera ang malaking pag-angat ng mga kooperatiba.

Sa nakalipas na tatlong taon, naging tuon ng mga kooperatiba ang pag-agapay sa mga drug dependents at sa pagbabagong-buhay ng mga dating miyembro ng Moro National Liberation Front.

Sa pamamagitan nito at ng ‘normalization program’ ng pamahalaan sa katimugang bahagi ng bansa, sinabi ni Ravanera na nakapasok ang CDA at nakapagbigay ng suporta at pagsasanay sa mga dating rebelde na naging miyembro ng mga akreditadong kooperatiba sa bansa.

“We organized them and provided training, introduced a paradigm shift from conventional to sustainable agriculture. That is contributing to peace in Mindanao,” aniya.

Ayon sa datos ng CDA noong 2017, mayroong 18,605 kooperatiba ang nagsasagawa ng operasyon sa buong bansa.

“By end of 2019, I can see a scenario where the cooperatives’ number will increase and we are about 11 million. I can see that before the year ends, we could reach 13 million members,” pagbabahagi ni Ravanera sa Philippine News Agency.

Ang Hulyo 6, ay idineklara ng United Nations bilang International Day of Cooperatives na may tema ngayong taon na: Cooperatives for Decent Work.
