NAKOPO ni Merwin Tan ang boys’ Masters youth championships sa 51st Singapore International Open 2019 nitong weekend para mapatatag ang katayuan bilang pangunahing Pinoy bowler sa kasalukuyan.

Nagwagi siya sa 20th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships sa Malaysia kamakailan.

Umiskor ang 19-anyos na si Tan ng 1,687 pinfalls sa walong laro para gapiin si Malaysian Megan Zaqrul Haiqal at Japanese Keita Tokushia sa Singapore Bowling Tamasek Club in Rifle Range, Singapore.

Kamakilan, nakamit ni Tan, nangungunang junior payer ng Philippine Bowling Federation (PBF)ang boys’ singles gold sa Asian Youth Championships nitong Abril, gayundin ang men’s open masters title sa katatapos na Philippine International Open sa Mandaluyong City.

“I’don’t want to put pressure on Merwin but he is favored to win the title because of his performances in the last few months. Merwin has very good work ethic, trying to improve himself everytime and master his craft. He’s always practicing what he does. He is a good example to other youth bowlers” pahayag ni head coach Biboy Rivera.

Kinapos naman si Bea Hernandez (1,667) sa girls’ youth masters kontra Yuen Hui Shan Natalene ng Singapore (1,674). Pangatlo si Singaporean Tay Kai Lin Arianne na may 1,643 pin falls.

Itinaguyod ang Filipino bowlers ng PAGCOR, Smart, MVP Sports Foundation, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) at Philippine Olympic Committee.
