KUNG may dapat tularan ang Pinoy bowlers para maging matagumpay sa Southeast Asian Games, kabilang na si Australian Sam Cooley, ang 2018 World Cup men’s singles champion.

Hindi maikakaila na sentro ng atensyon ang 27-anyos mula sa Sydney, Australia sa paglarga ng 2019 Philippine International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships ngayon sa Coronado Lanes sa Starmall, Mandaluyong City.

“I don’t see it particularly easy. It’s going to take a lot of good shotmaking and mental toughness to get it done,” pahayag ni Cooley, asam ang back-to-back title sa torneo na nasungkit niya sa nakalipas na taon sa parehong lanes.

Kabilang sa magtatangkang pigilan si Cooley ang mga premyadong Pinoy bowlers kabilang sina male bowler of the year Kenneth Chua, nanguna sa qualifying round nitong Martes at national youth standouts Kenzo Umali at Merwin Tan.

Awtomatiko na sa first round ng finals si Cooley, gold medalist sa all events sa 2012 world youth championships, habang sina Chua, Umali at Tan ay diretsona sa medal round bukas.

“I qualified automatically. Right now, I’m just testing out things until the finals,” sambit ni Cooley, nagwagi rin ng silver at bronze medals sa mga nakalipas na edsiyon ng torneo.

Nakuha ni Chua ang No. 1 spot sa qualifying round matapos umiskor ng 1483 pinfalls, kasunod sina Umali at Tan, Asian youth singles gold medalist, na may 1426 matapos ang dalawang rounds sa torneo na suportado ng Pagcor, Cafe Puro, Prima Pasta, MVP Sports Foundation, Boysen Paints, Linden Suites at Philippine Sports Commission.

“It will take more than just consistency to win the title. I have to show up with my performance in the finals,” sambit ni Chua, men’s singles silver medalist sa 2017 Asian Indoor Games sa Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Umusad din sa finals sina national team mainstay Frederick Ong (1412), Jonas Baltasar ng TBAM-Prima (1403) at PH pool member Emerson Gotencio (1394).
