Pinagre-resign bilang miyembro ng University of the Philippines (UP) Board of Regents si Frederick “Spocky” Farolan matapos itong mag-post sa social media ng mistulang pagbabanta laban sa mga manlalaro ng Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU).

Ayon kay Senator Nancy Binay, dapat na mag-resign si Farolan sa ngalan ng delicadeza at bilang pagmamahal sa UP.

“Out of delicadeza and out of love for UP, it is best for Regent Spocky Farolan to tender his resignation. He has put UP in a bad light twice. First was about UP College Admission Test (UPCAT), and now the UAAP,” ani Binay.

Sa kanyang Facebook account, nag-post si Farolan na tatlong manlalaro ng Ateneo Blue Eagles ang hindi makapaglalaro kontra sa UP Fighting Maroons sa Game 2 ng University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season ‘81 Finals bukas.

“Sayang hindi kumpleto ang players ng Ateneo sa Wednesday. Tatlo injured. Pili na kung sinu-sino mga ‘yon,” post ni Farolan, na kalaunan ay tinanggal din niya.

Iginiit naman ni Senator Francis Pangilinan na hindi katanggap-tanggap ang ginawa ni Farolan sa UP.

“Having served as a member of the UP Board of Regents twice (first as Student Regent in 1986 and then as ex-officio member being chairman of the Senate Committee on Education in 2003), I believe Regent Farolan should tender his resignation as member of the UP Board of Regents immediately,” sabi ni Pangilinan.

PINAAAKSIYUNAN SA UP

Nagmungkahi na rin kahapon ang Malacañang na paimbestigahan mismo ng UP ang nasabing pagbabanta ni Farolan, sa gitna na rin ng dagsang panawagan upang magbitiw sa tungkulin ang opisyal.

“I think there should be a body that will objectively investigate that incident so that the finding will come out,” sinabi kahapon ni Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo sa Palace press conference. “We’ll leave it to UP because it happened there.”

‘DECIDE FOR HIMSELF’

Sinabi rin ni Panelo na tanging si Farolan ang makapagdedesisyon tungkol sa panawagang mag-resign na ito.

“Fairness only dictates that it’s the person subject of the call for resignation should decide for himself whether or not there is validity of the call,” sabi ni Panelo. “I think we should give the person the benefit of the doubt, let him explain himself. That’s what we call due process and rule of law.”

Matatandaang natalo ng defending champion na Ateneo ang UP sa Game 1 nitong Sabado.
