Nanawagan kahapon sa Department of Education (DepEd) ang isang grupo ng mga guro “[to] rectify its error” nang tanggalin ang Philippine History sa secondary curriculum.

Isinagawa ng Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) ang apela kasabay ng pagsasagawa nila ng maghapong diskusyong may temang “Significance of Life and Writings of Andres Bonifacio in Current Education System” na idinaos sa Conference Hall ng DepEd-National Capital Region (NCR) sa Quezon City.

“Even Andres Bonifacio knew the importance of the lessons of our people’s history—he studied it on his own and he used our own language to write revolutionary literature that paved the way to our liberation. We need to reform the curriculum to instill values such as patriotism, respect for justice, human rights and rule of law,” sabi ni TDC National Chairperson Benjo Basas.

Aniya, idinisenyo ang public education system upang maikintal sa isipan ng mga bata at ng mamamayan ang kahalagahan ng kasaysayan ng bansa, na laging ipinagmamalaki ang pagkamakabayan.

Dapat na ipatupad kaagad ng DepEd ang pagtuturo ng Philippine History sa high school, ayon kay Basas.

Binigyang-diin din nito na nitong school year 2014-2015 pa ay tinanggal na ng DepEd ang subject na Philippine History secondary schools mula nang ipatupad ang bagong K to 12 curriculum.
