KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Panauhing pandangal si Malaysia's Minister of Education Dr. Maszlee Bin Malik sa opening ceremony ng 10th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Schools Games kahapon sa Dewan Agung Canselor, UiTM sa Sha, Alam.
Kabuuang 1,500 secondary student-athletes, coaches, team managers, and delegation officials, kabilang ang 230-man Team Philippines ang pumarada sa simpleng seremonya sa 10 ASEAN member-countries meet.
Pinangunahan nina Education Undersecretary Tonisito S. Umali, Assistant Secretary Atty. Revsee Escobedo, at Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Charles Raymond A. Maxey, Chef-de-Mission Rizalino Jose Rosales, at deputy CDM Cesar Abalon, ang delegasyon na bansa na sasabak sa 10 sports sa limang araw na torneo.
Kabilang din sa mga opisyal na naanyayahan sa programa sina Deputy Minister of Education of Brunei Darussalam Datin Paduka Dr. Hajah Romaizah, pangulo rin ng ASEAN School Sports Council at Malaysia's Director General of Education Dr. Amin Bin Senin.
Binubuo ang PH Team ng 167 medalist mula sa Palarong Pambansa na sasabak sa artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, athletics, swimming, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, sepak takraw at squash.
"I am planning to watch athletics on Saturday morning. We have promising talents in athletics," pahayag ni Maxey.
Target ng Nationals na mapantayan hindi man malagpasan ang nakamit na 13 ginto, walong silver, at 21 bronze medal para sa ikaanim na puwestong pagtatapos sa nakalipas na edisyon sa Singapore.
