MALAWAK ang mandato ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) at hindi lamang nakatali para sa pagbibigay ng pondo sa National Sports Associations (NSA) at sa mga programa ng grassroots sport development.

Ito ang buweltang pahayag ni PSC Commissioner Ramon ‘El Presidente’ Fernandez kasabay nang paalala kay Asian Games chief of mission Richard Gomez na basahin ang Implementing Rules and Regulation ng Republic Act 6847 (Creating PSC) upang maunawaan ang sports.

“Huwag kasi puro dialogue sa script ang binabasa. I suggest he (Richard Gomez) reads RA 6847 and the IRR. SECTION 2 and 3,” pahayag ni Fernandez.

Batay sa tinukoy ni Fernandez sa IRR ng RA 6847, nakasaad ang Rule IV (m) To impose sanctions upon any national sports associations, institutions, associations, body, entity, team, athletes and sports official for violation of its policies, rules and regulations.

Nakasaad naman sa Section3 (a) Suspend the grant of financial assistance and other privileges to an NSA with intra-corporate conflict and/ or suspended  by the POC;  (b) Suspend the grant of financial assistance, monthly allowances and meal subsidies to non-performing athletes and coaches and to those which does not meet the criteria and observe the guidelines set forth by the Commission.

“Malinaw yan, dapat basahing mabuti ‘yan,” sambit ni Fernandez.

Nitong Miyerkules, matapos ang ginanap na Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) General Assembly, kinatigan ni Gomez ang pagkakasama ng Women’s Volleyball team sa Philippine delegation na isasabak sa Asian Games sa Agosto 18 hanggang Setyembre 2 sa Jakarta at satellite venue Palembang sa Indonesia.

Kamakailan lang binuo ang women’s volleyball team na binubuo ng mga players mula sa Philippine Super Liga (PSL) na pinangangasiwaan ng mga opisyal na Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas, Inc. Ang LVPI ay kasalukuyang nakikipagbuno ng recognition sa International body sa Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) na pinamumunuan ni Edgardo ‘Tito Boy’ Cantada na ilegal na inalis ng POC na pinamumunuan noon ni Jose ‘Peping’ Cojuangco.

Hindi nakapasa sa criteria na gold or silver sa nakalipas na SEA Games ang women’s volleyball na sumadsad laban sa mga kapit-bahay sa rehiyon.

Ang sitwasyon sa volleyball ang dahilan sa pagpalag ng PSC para pondohan ang partisipasyon nito. Kung magpipilit, iminungkahi ni Fernandez na gastusan ng POC ang women’s volleyball at ibabalik ng PSC ang nagastos kung makakapasok sa medal round ang koponan.

“I said it before and said again. Hindi pa handa ang women’s volleyball team. Wala pa nga isang buwan na binuo at hindi pa nga nakakapagensayo ng buo. Ano ang magagawa nila laban sa powerhouse China, Japan at South Korea or even sa mga basing dating Soviet at Middle Eastern. Hindi ba magiging kahiya-hiya lang tayo,” sambit ni Fernandez.

Humirit naman si Gomez.

 “I set the criteria. As (the new) CDM, I created the new criteria,” pahayag ni Gomez sa panayam ni Manila Bulleting sportswriter Nick Giongco.

“I really wish  that Mr. Ramon Fernandez will know that there is a new CDM and it’s no longer Mr. Camacho. They cannot be selective and they should fund as a whole,” ayon sa dating actor at ngayo’y Ormoc, Leyte Mayor.

“That is their mandate. PSC cannot dictate who to send who not to send,” aniya.
