SEOUL – Interesado ang mga negosyanteng South Korean na mamuhunan sa Pilipinas at lumagda sa 23 business deals na tinatayang nagkakahalaga ng $4.858 bilyon.

Sinabi ni Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez na ang private business deals, nabuo sa pagbisita ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa South Korea, ay inaasahang lilikha ng 50,000 bagong trabaho para sa mga Pilipino.

Nilagdaan ang mga kasunduan, kabilang ang isang memorandum of agreement (MOA), anim na memorandum of understanding (MOU), at 16 letters of intent (LOI) mula sa mga kumpanyang Korean, sa idinaos na business forum na dinaluhan ng Pangulo sa huling araw ng kanyang pagbisita rito.

“These investments are expected to generate 50,000 new jobs in the sectors of automative, public utility, modernization, LNG (liquefied natural gas) and coal fire power, engineering, construction, sea offshore services, food and aquaculture,” sinabi ni Lopez sa forum na ginanap sa Lotte Hotel dito.

“These are all in addition to the five government-to-government MOUs signed by the government with the Korean government,” dugtong niya.

Isa sa pinakamalaking business deals ay ang $900-milyon power plant na pinaplano ng POSCO Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd. Sinabi ni Lopez, nagsalita sa reporters bago ang business meeting, na nilalayon ng kumpanyang ito na mamuhunan sa energy plant sa Masinloc, Zambales.

Kabilang sa private business deals na nilagdaan nitong Martes ang MOA sa donasyon ng dalawang trucks at dalawang car ambulance mula sa Korean Federation of Fire Association sa Authority of the Freeport of Area ng Bataan; at MOU para magdebelop ng mga programa sa ilalim ng ASEAN mentorship para sa entrepreneurs network sa pagitan ng ASEAN Business Advisory Council at ng ASEAN-Korean Centre With Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business.

Nilagdaan din ang MOU sa pagpapalitan ng impormasyon sa commerce, industry market, trade opportunities focusing on SMEs sa pagitan ng Philippine Chamber of Commerce Industry (PCCI) at ng Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business; MOU sa pagtatag ng joint development and promotion ng green businesses kabilang ang smart grid, electric vehicles sa pagitan ng Philippine Utility Vehicle Inc at ng DaeKyung Engineering Co. Ltd; LOI sa dredging , reclamation at reformation ng pier sa Port Irene, Sta. Ana, Cagayan sa pagitan ng Cagayan Economic Zone Authority at ng Sea Offshore Services Corporation.

Kasama rin ang LOI sa pagpapalawak ng operations sa Pilipinas sa urban development, residential, airports, hospitals at high-rise buildings ng POSCO Engineering & Construction Co; LOI para sa solar power sa San Pablo, Isabela ng BKS Energy Industry Ltd; LOI para sa wind power plant operations sa Pilipinas ng SY ENC Co. Ltd; LOI para sa freshwater eel production sa Sta. Cruz, Occidental Mindoro ng PNK Aquaculture and Trading; LOI para palawakin ang kimchi food business sa Pilipinas ng Taesong Kimchi Company; LOI para sumali sa public utility jeepney modernization program ng Hyundai Motor Co. at Hyundai Asia Resources; at LOI para sa planong magtayo ng assembly plant para sa passer vehicles ng Hyundai Motor Co. at Hyundai Asia Resources Inc.
