Sinabi kahapon ni Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra na wala siyang makitang rason para repasuhin ang kontrata ng Department of Justice (DoJ) na iginawad sa security firm na pag-aari ng pamilya ni Solicitor General Jose Calida.

“Unless there’s a challenge to the validity of the contracts, there is no need for us to investigate,” ani Guevarra sa mga mamamahayag kahapon.

Ipinunto ng Secretary na ang private security agency, at hindi ang Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) o ang SolGen, ang nakipagkontrata sa DoJ.

“For now let’s presume that the contracts were validly entered into, unless it could be shown that procurement laws were violated,” ani Guevarra.

Sinabi rin ni Guevarra na legal at dumaan sa tamang proseso ng procurement ang kontrata ng DoJ sa Vigilant Investigative and Security Agency, Inc. na nagsimula noong Pebrero 1, 2018 at magtatapos sa Disyembre 31, 2018.

Napirmahan ang kontrata na nagkakahalaga ng P6.76 milyon sa panahon ni dating Justice secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II.

Gayunman, inamin niya na “in the future, however, DoJ should exercise more circumspection.”

Nahaharap si Calida sa reklamo sa Office of the Ombudsman kaugnay sa diumano’y conflict of interest dahil sa pag-aari ng kanyang pamilya ang Vigilant na nakakuha ng malalaking kontrata sa gobyerno, kabilang na sa DoJ.

“There is no conflict of interest on the part of Solicitor General Jose C. Calida in the matter of contracts between Vigilant Investigative and Security Agency, Inc. and its client-agencies,” saad sa pahayag na inilabas ni Calida.
