Isa pang Supreme Court Associate Justice ang nagpahayag ng intensiyong tumestigo sa impeachment proceeding laban kay Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno.

Sinabi ni Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali, chairman ng House Committee on Justice, na nagpahayag si Associate Justice Mariano del Castillo ng kahandaang tumestigo sa harap ng kanyang panel kaugnay sa pagbili ng Chief Justice ng bago at mamamahaling Toyota Land Cruiser 2017 model bilang personal na sasakyan, na nagkakahalaga ng P5.1 milyon.

“There is another justice who conveyed his desire to testify in the impeachment proceeding against the Chief Justice,” ani Umali, na ang tinutukoy ay si Del Castillo.

Si Del Castillo ang magiging ikaanim na mahistrado na tetestigo sa harap ng House panel na nakatakdang magpapatuloy ang pagdinig sa pagtukoy kung mayroong probable cause o sapat na batayan para i-impeach si Sereno, ngayong araw (Disyembre 11). Sinabi ni Umali na hindi personal na lumapit sa kanya si De Castro, ngunit ipinaabot nito ang intensiyong tumestigo sa panel secretariat.

“I have no personal knowledge about his intention to testify, but his willingness to face us was relayed to my committee secretariat,” aniya.

“Associate Justice del Castillo may testify on the circumstances behind the Toyota Land Cruiser controversy and other allegations of corruption against the Chief Justice,” dagdag niya.

Inaakusahan ng abogadong si Larry Gadon si Sereno ng betraying public trust sa diumano’y pagbili ng bagong Toyota Land Cruiser. Sinabi pa niya na ang kanyang reklamong impeachment ang nagpuwersa kay Sereno na kanselahin ang iniulat na P4 milyon bulletproofing job para sa mamahaling sport utility vehicle (SUV).

Idiniin ng kampo ni Sereno na ang pagbili ng Chief Justice sa Toyota Land Cruiser 2017 model ay hindi isyu at hindi “ground for impeachment. “

“The acquisition of the Toyota Land Cruiser 2017 model was neither an illegal nor an extravagant use of public funds,” ayon dito.

Kabilang sa listahan ng mga sasaksi sa pagpapatuloy ng impeachment hearing ngayong araw sina SC Associate Justices Noel Tijam, Francis Jardeleza, Teresita Leonardo de Castro at retired Associate Justice Arturo Brion.
