Sinabi ni chief government negotiator Silvestre Bello III kahapon na maaaring matigil na ang peace talks sa Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) kapag opisyal na idineklarang “terorista” ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang makakaliwang grupo.
Sa panayam sa telepono, sinabi ni Bello na pipigilan ng deklarasyon ang government peace panel na isulong pa ang mga usapang pangkapayapaan sa CPP-NPA-NDF dahil sa anti-terrorists policy ng pamahalaan.
“You know we don’t negotiate with terrorists so the peace talks will end,” ani Bello.
Nitong weekend, binuhay muli ni Duterte ang kanyang intensiyon na baguhin ang klasipikasyon ng NPA, ang armadong sangay ng CPP, mula sa “legitimate rebels” at gawin itong “terrorists” dahil sa patuloy na pang-aatake ng grupo sa mga puwersa ng pamahalaan sa buong bansa.

Sinabi ni Bello na umaasa sila na magbabago ang isip ni Duterte. “We are still keeping our fingers crossed that the President will reconsider his pronouncement,” aniya.
Suportado nina Senador Panfilo Lacson, Sen. Gregorio Honasan at Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III ang balak ng Pangulo na ideklarang teroristang grupo ang NPA dahil matagal na umanong naghahasik ng karahasan ang grupo.
“Only a president with Duterte’s guts can declare the NPAs as terrorists and that’s what who they are for quite a long time. Their ideology has been gone more than a decade ago. They burn, destroy, kill innocent civilians to terrorize; they terrorize to sow fear and harass helpless civilians; they harass to extort under the guise of revolutionary taxation,” ani Lacson.
Naniniwala naman si Sen. Antonio F. Trillanes IV na ang plano ay mananatiling “lip service to appease and deceive the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines)” hangga’t tinotoo ng Pangulo.
Ikinalulungkot niya na masyadong nagtitiwala ang administrasyon sa NDF.
