Sinabi ni Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana kahapon na ang kasunduan sa pagitan ng Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at China na simulan ang mga pag-uusap sa Code of Conduct sa South China Sea (West Philippine Sea) ay magiging produktibo sa lahat ng partido.
Sa isang panayam, sinabi ni Lorenzana na maging ang China ay tapat sa pagsusulong ng Code of Conduct upang maiwasan ang gulo o tensiyon sa mga bansang umaangkin dito.
“I think so because even them (China) is saying that they also want it. I believe they are sincere (about it). Even the president believes they are sincere in pursuing that together with the other claimants (like) Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam,” ani Lorenzana.

“It’s best to talk about this. It will be going to the table and talk about things that will benefit everybody,” dagdag niya.
Sinabi ni Lorenzana na kabilang sa mga benepisyo ng pagkakaroon ng COC ay maiiwasan na ang miscalculations at misunderstanding sa mga claimant.
“Our fishermen will also have unlimited access whenever they go out there fishing. At the same time we are going to continue developing the islands under our control,” ani Lorenzana.
Nagkasundo ang 10 pinuno ng ASEAN na opisyal na simulan ang mga negosasyon para sa Code of Conduct in the South China Sea “while the situation is calmer now.”
