TOKYO – Sinabi ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na magpapakabait siya sa pagpupulong nila ni Emperor Akihito at ni Empress Michiko sa ikalawang araw ng kanyang pagbisita dito.

Ngunit ayon kay Duterte tiyak na ipapahayag niya ang pasasalamat ng Pilipnas sa “Land of the Rising Sun.”

“I suppose that I have to limit my mouth there, except maybe to bring the warm greetings of the Filipino nation, a grateful nation to Japan, as a matter of fact,” ani Duterte.

Sinabi ng Pangulo na personal niyang ipaabot ang kanyang pasasalamat sa Japanese royal family “for Japan’s friendship with the Philippines, which has grown stronger under His Majesty’s reign.”

Sinabi rin ng Pangulo na ang kanyang pagbisita kay Emperor Akihito ay “kind of a homage” bago bumaba o ipasa ng Emperor ang trono.

“One of the reason was really that before he steps down, he wanted to see the leaders of—the last time, I was not able to do it because his uncle died. And that is why I have to go back,” dagdag niya.

Nasa dalawang araw na official visit si Duterte sa Japan. Magkakaroon siya ng sunud-sunod na pagpupulong sa Japanese officials kabilang si Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at sa Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) President Shinichi Kitaoka, at iba pa.

Dumating si Duterte kasama ang kanyang delegasyon sa HanedaAirport sa Tokyo dakong 2:45 ng umaga. Sinalubong siya nina Philippine Ambassador to Tokyo Jose Laurel V, at Deputy Chief of Mission Eduardo Menez mula sa bahagi ng Pilipinas.

Binati rin siya ni State Minister for Foreign Affairs Kazuyuki Nakane at bagong Japanese Ambassador to Manila Koji Haneda.
