ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan – Nakamit ng Team Philippines ang dalawang gintong medalya sa jiu-jitsu mula kina Meggie Ochoa at Annie Ramirez nitong Martes sa Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) dito.
Nadomina ni Ochoa ang karibal na si Dao Le Thu Trang ng Vietnam, 5-0, sa women’s Ne-Waza -45kg final para sa unang hirit ng Team Philippines bago nasundan ni Ramirez sa parehong impresibong 5-0 panalo kontra Jenna Kaila Napolis sa women’s Ne-Waza -55kg division.
Kapwa nagwagi sina Ochoa at Ramirez ng gintong medalya sa huling Asian Beach Games sa nakalipas na taon sa Danang, Vietnam.
Nitong Lunes, kinapos si Marc Alexander Lim nang mabigo sa championship round ng jiu-jitsu-65kg men’s Ne-Waza.
Nagtapos din ng silver si Alvin Lobriguito sa freestyle traditional wrestling.
“It would have nice to have ended it with a win, or at least 0-0 (referee’s decision),” pahayag ni Lim. “I’m very happy to have delivered a medal, but I would have been happier if it’s a gold, so I can’t really say that I’m happy with the silver.”
“I have to learn from it. It’s actually my third time fighting him. He’s the only guy that I bumped in to that I have beaten yet. I’m getting closer and closer every time. In jiu-jitsu there’s a belt system… he’s a black belt, I’m purple belt,” aniya.
Samantala, nabigo si Rio Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz na makasungkit ng ginto sa women’s weightlifting competitions.
Nabuhat lamang ng 22-anyos mula sa Zamboanga ang kabuuang bigat na 204 kilograms para sumegunda kay Liao Qiuyun ng China.
Nabuhat niya ang 90 kilos sa snatch, ngunit nanaig si Liao sa nabuhat na 93.
