LUNG cancer pala at stage 4 na ang sakit ni Spanky Manikan kaya nawala siya sa My Love From The Star at pinalitan ni Crispin Pineda sa role ni Mr. Jang, ang kaibigan ni Matteo Domingo.
Sa isang post sa Facebook ni Nanding Josef, nanawagan siya ng tulong para sa kaibigan.

“To all our dear friends in theater, TV and film, our dear friend, Spanky Manikan needs our help.
“Spanky 75 years old has been diagnosed with lung cancer, stage 4 , and is in need of financial assistance. He has been hospitalized 4 times already for various complications which has drained family savings (Spanky’s loving wife, who has been by his side all this time is fellow actor Susan Africa-Manikan).
“Though Spanky is slowly getting better, he needs 6 more cycles of chemotherapy. He is still confined in the hospital for pleural (lung fluid) drainage.
