INAASAHANG sisipa pa ang retail industry ng bansa ngayong taon at sa susunod pa, dahil patuloy na tumataas ang kumpiyansa ng mga mamimili sa epektibong mga polisiya ng gobyerno sa kabila ng krisis sa Marawi City.
“So far, the Mindanao issue is being confined basically to the Marawi City and immediate environment. So far, that has not affected consumer confidence elsewhere in the Philippines especially in Luzon and Visayas,” sinabi ni Philippine Retailers Association President (PSA) Paul Santos sa isang panayam.
Tiwala si Santos sa patuloy na pag-alagwa ng sektor, sinabing nasa mabuting posisyon ngayon ang pamahalaan upang magsimula sa pagsasakatuparan sa mga polisiyang nailatag na ng mga nakalipas na administrasyon.
“I think they are in a better position to tweak these policies because they have the benefit of hindsight meaning, they know from the experience of the previous administrations what does works, what doesn’t,” paliwanag ni Santos.
Binanggit ni Santos ang resulta ng huling consumer expectations survey ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) na nagpapakitang nananatiling solido ang kumpiyansa ng mga mamimili sa administrasyon ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
“I suppose we can infer from it that people have their full faith and confidence in the new administration and these translate into a robust shopping environment. So, for as long as these conditions continue, I think you will not see any decline in consumer confidence in the administration and this translates to confidence to spend,” sabi pa ni Santos.
Tinukoy din ni Santos ang iba pang bagay na nagpapasigla sa retail industry, kabilang ang mas malaking suweldo o kita, ang pagsulong ng sektor ng Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) na nagpapatatag sa middle-income class, at ang remittances ng mga overseas Filipino workers na nagpapasigla sa kakayahan ng mamimili na gumastos.
“With these factors, plus what I would call the growth in income from Filipinos working domestically, these factors indicate that Philippines retailing will grow strongly for some more years to come,” puno ng kumpiyansang sabi ng pangulo ng PSA.
