Bagsak ang demokrasya sa bansa matapos na tanggihan ng mayorya na magkaroon ng joint session ang Kongreso para talakayin ang pagdedeklara ng martial law sa Mindanao.
Ayon kay Senator Leila de Lima, nakasaad sa saligang-batas na kailangang hingan ng paliwanag si Pangulong Duterte sa naging deklarasyon nito.
“Our democracy is at stake here. Refusing to let Congress convene is failing the democracy that put us here in the first place. If we let the President do whatever he wants and declare martial law in Mindanao, I would not be surprised if one day we wake up with the entire country under military rule,” sabi ni de Lima.
