Tuluyan nang nalagutan ng hininga ang dalawang bilanggo ng New Bilibid Prison (NBP) sa Muntinlupa City matapos mahilo, magsuka at magtae sa umano’y pagkakalason kasabay ng paglobo ng mga biktima sa 1,212.
“There are now 1,212 diarrhea cases in Bilibid. Two deaths as of today,” sinabi kahapon ni Department of Justice (DOJ) Undersecretary Erickson Balmes.
Kinilala ni BuCor Director General Benjamin Delos Santos ang dalawang namatay na inmate na sina Virgilio Sabado, 62, at Sabas Lastimoso, 67.
“Next of kins have been duly notified and provided financial assistance,” ayon kay Delos Santos.

Si Sabado, na namatay nitong Mayo 30, ay nasawi dahil sa “Hypovolemic Shock, Infectious Diarrhea, diabetis mellitus type 2.”
Samantala, namatay si Lastimoso dahil sa diabetic coma nitong Mayo 31.
Nitong Lunes, binisita ni DoJ Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II ang nasabing bilangguan upang alamin ang kalagayan ng mga preso.
“If there are persons or parties responsible for this then they should be held accountable,” paniniguro ni Aguirre na nagdala ng 2,000 bote ng Gatorade at 4,000 piraso ng saging para sa NBP inmates.
“We wish to re-assure the public, particularly the families of the inmates who are down with diarrhea that we are addressing the problem. The health and the welfare of our inmates, under the present circumstances, are paramount,” aniya.
Humingi na rin ng tulong si Aguirre sa DoH upang matukoy ang sanhi ng diarrhea outbreak.
