Pinaalalahanan ni Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno ang gobyerno na huwag nang ulitin ang mga pagkakamaling nagawa sa pagpapairal ni dating Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos ng batas militar sa buong bansa ilang dekada na ang nakalipas.
Ito ang naging panawagan ni Sereno matapos na magdeklara si Pangulong Duterte ng martial law sa Mindanao nitong Miyerkules kasunod ng pagkubkob ng Maute Group sa Marawi City nitong Martes.
“The fears stoked by the terms ‘Martial Law’ and ‘suspension of the writ of habeas corpus,’ are therefore not surprising. But we must remember that these apprehensions were created by former President Marcos and the martial law that followed his 1972 declaration,” sinabi ni Sereno sa kanyang talumpati kahapon sa commencement exercises ng Ateneo de Manila University.
“If President Duterte and the aforementioned government authorities avoid the gross historical sins of Mister Marcos and his agents, then our country might reap the benefits of the legitimate use of the provisions on Martial Law in the 1987 Constitution,” pagtitiyak naman ni Sereno, na nagtapos nang may degree sa economics sa Ateneo noong 1980.

REKLAMO
Kaugnay nito, inihayag ng Commission on Human Rights (CHR) na handa itong tumanggap ng mga reklamo ng pang-aabuso kaugnay ng ipinatutupad na batas militar sa Mindanao.
Paliwanag ni CHR Commissioner Gwendolyn Pimentel-Gana, nananatiling bukas ang lahat ng tanggapan ng CHR sa Mindanao kapag may ginawang mali sa pagpapatupad ng martial law.
PRICE FREEZE
Samantala, awtomatikong ipinatutupad ng Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) ang price freeze sa mga pangunahing bilihin sa Mindanao kaugnay ng umiiral na 60-araw na batas militar.
Giit ng DTI, dapat na manatili ang kasalukuyang presyo ng mga pangunahing bilihin, gaya ng bigas, asukal, kape, gatas, de-latang pagkain, bottled water at iba pa, batay sa suggested retail price (SRP).
