Labing-apat sa 17 overseas Filipino worker (OFW) sa Moscow na nakulong nitong Mayo 16 ang pinalaya kaagad ng sumunod na gabi, ayon sa Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Sa natanggap na ulat ng DFA, nakikipag-ugnayan na ang Embahada ng Pilipinas sa Moscow sa mga nakalayang Pinoy upang tugunan ang karaingan ng mga ito, habang nananatili sa kustodiya ng awtoridad doon ang tatlo pang Pilipino.
Simula nitong Mayo 16 ay nagsasagawa ng representasyon ang Embahada ng Pilipinas sa mga opisyal ng Russia at nagpapatuloy para sa natitirang tatlong nakadetineng Pinoy.
Bukod dito, puspusan din ang pagbibigay nito ng impormasyon at ulat sa Office of Migrant Workers Affairs ng DFA.

“In our discussion with Russian authorities, we emphasized that the detainees are victims and not criminals. They are victims of illegal recruitment and should not be punished. They should be set free,” sabi ni Ambassador Carlos Sorreta.
“Filipinos in Russia obey the law, are hardworking and do not cause problems. There is also a lot of goodwill between the Philippines and Russia today, with increasing prospects for cooperation in a wide range of areas. These factors helped us in securing the release of our Filipinos,” dugtong ng ambassador.
Inaalam na rin ng Embahada kung maaaring manatili ang mga pinalayang Pilipino sa Russia para ipagpatuloy ang kanilang trabaho. Ang mga hindi papayagang manatili ay agad na aayusin ng Embahada ang mga dokumento, aayudahan sa kaukulang government clearances, at bibigyan ng pasahe pauwi sa Pilipinas.
“We would like to advice those seeking to work in Russia to follow both Philippine and Russia laws. For those already here, please continue to observe the laws of the country, be respectful to lawful authorities and do not call attention to yourselves,” panawagan pa ni Sorreta. (Bella Gamotea)
