Bineberipika ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) at ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) ang sumbong ng mga mangingisda sa Mariveles, Bataan na hinaras sila ng Chinese Coast Guard sa pinag-aagawang lugar sa West Philippine Sea/South China Sea.
“I have already asked for the latest info on the alleged incident of harassment against Filipino fishermen,” ani DFA Spokesperson Robespierre Bolivar.
Isang grupo ng mga mangingisda sa Mariveles, Bataan ang nagpahayag na inikutan sila ng speedboat ng Chinese Coast Guard malapit sa Union Reef at nagpaputok ng warning shots upang itaboy sila.
Ayon sa mga mangingisda, nagbabatak sila ng lambat malapit sa Union Reef nang biglang lumitaw ang speedboat at hinabol sila palayo.

May suspetsa ang mga mangingisda na binabantayan ng Chinese Coast Guard ang marine construction site sa lugar.
“We are still validating that story. We also heard that but it’s hard to give an official statement without getting first the facts and verifying the alleged incident,” saad sa pahayag kahapon ni AFP chief of staff General Eduardo Año.
“In coordination with other agencies particularly the Philippine Coast Guard we will validate it and thereafter take the proper actions,” dagdag niya. (Roy C. Mabasa at Francis T. Wakefield)
