Natamo na ng Pilipinas at ng China ang “best level of friendship” pero hindi pa rin natin isusuko ang pag-angkin sa pinag-aagawang teritoryo sa West Philippine Sea (WPS) o South China Sea, ayon kay Pangulong Duterte.
Nangako ang Pangulo na itataas niya ang arbitral judgment sa South China Sea kapag nagsimula ang China na humukay ng mineral resources sa pinag-aagawang teritoryo.
“We are at our best level of friendship with China after I went there,” sabi ng Pangulo nang bumisita siya sa Mindoro, at tinukoy ang paglago ng relasyon sa negosyo at pamumuhunan ng dalawang bansa.
Pero sinabi ni Duterte sa China na, “we have not abandoned our claim,” na ang tinutukoy ay ang karapatan ng bansa sa South China Sea sa kabila ng maayos na pakikipagkaibigan sa China.

“At any time during my term, we will have to talk about the arbitration of the China Sea. And when that time comes, I would present to you the judgment on all four corners of the paper,” sabi ni Duterte, na ang tinutukoy ay ang pagpabor ng arbitral court sa Pilipinas.
Kung kailan niya binabalak igiit ang arbitration ruling sa mga opisyal ng China, ang sabi ni Duterte: “When they start to excavate or whatever there is in the bowels of the sea, ‘tapos may pera na, katukin ko sila: ‘Tao po. Ang amin. Paano na lang ito?’ Iyan, that’s about the time.”
“To the credit of (China) President Xi Jinping, napakabait na tao. Pati ‘yung Chinese, talagang Chinese people, they are really good. They are faithful friends,” sabi ni Duterte na nakatakdang bumalik sa China sa Mayo upang dumalo sa infrastructure development forum. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
