Iginiit ng Liberal Party (LP) na mananatiling kontra ang partido sa pagbabalik ng parusang kamatayan sa kabila ng pananakot ng liderato ng Kamara sa mga kasapi nito.
Base sa pahayag ng LP, sinabi ni Senator Francis Pangilinan, LP president, na hindi magbabago ang pananaw ng mga miyembro ng partido at boboto sila ayon sa kanilang konsensiya.
“Pressure, intimidation, or enticement will not sway the LP members from casting a vote based on their conscience and conviction,” pahayag ni Pangilinan.
Ayon pa kay Pangilinan, mahalaga ang boto ng mga kongresista para malaman din ng taumbayan kung ano ang posisyon ng mga ito.

“The Liberal Party reiterates that it is opposed to the death penalty because it is ineffective, it further victimizes the poor, it violates international law, and our criminal justice system is flawed. The solution to crime is ensuring certainty of punishment by a systematic, inter-branch push to reform our justice system,” dagdag ni Pangilinan. (Leonel M. Abasola)
