Higit pang tumatag ang Senate minority bloc kahapon matapos nitong ihalal si Liberal Party Senator Franklin Drilon bilang bagong Senate minority leader.
Si Senator Paolo “Bam” Aquino IV ang nag-nominate kay Drilon sa posisyon. Sinegundahan naman ni Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III ang mosyon ni Aquino.
“There be no other candidate and no number of votes required under our Rules the election of Drilon as minority leader is hereby made official,” sabi ni Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.
Si Aquino naman, batay sa mosyon ni Drilon, ang assistant minority leader.

Nagpadala naman ng liham sa Senado si Sen. Leila de Lima, na nakapiit sa Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center sa Camp Crame, na binasa ni Sotto, at nakasaad doon na nais niyang maging miyembro ng minority bloc.
“This is to give notice that I am formally withdrawing from the majority in order to join the minority bloc in the Senate,” saad sa sulat-kamay na liham ni De Lima kay Pimentel.
Tinanggap naman ni Pimentel ang liham ni De Lima at inilagay sa record na 18 senador na ngayon ang miyembro ng majority bloc, habang anim naman ang minorya.
Ang minorya sa Senado ay binubuo nina Drilon, Aquino, De Lima, Senators Risa Hontiveros, Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, at Antonio Trillanes IV. (Hannah L. Torregoza)
