Sa kabila ng America First policy ni President Donald Trump, nagpahayag ang grupo ng mga Filipino-American na ang mga immigrant worker, kabilang ang mga Pinoy, ay mahalaga sa Amerika.
“They (the immigrants) are not really taking away jobs,” sabi ni Aquilina Soriano Versoza, executive director ng Pilipino Workers Center (PWC) sa Los Angeles, California.
Ipinaliwanag ni Versoza na kapwa ang legal at illegal immigrants ang gumagawa ng mga trabahong ayaw gawin ng mga Amerikano dahil sa mababang suweldo at benepisyo.
“They (immigrants) are doing them because they are not jobs that folks here want to do—from farm work to domestic and retail work,” ani Versoza sa mga Pilipino na sumali sa United States-Philippines Bilateral Program ng U.S. State Department’s Foreign Press Center.

Ilegal mang nananatili ang ibang Pinoy sa United States, iginiit ni Verzosa na hindi sila mga kriminal.
“It’s like jaywalking. Because of that technicality, they shouldn’t be punished. They are backbones of many industries here,” dagdag ni Versoza.
Ito rin ang sentimiyento ng Search To Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA), isang Los Angeles-based Filipino-American group na itinatag noong 1972.
“They provide a lot to the workforce. They are one of the most educated among the ethnic Asian groups,” sabi ni Dorothy Gamoning, SIPA executive director.
Nagpahayag din sila ng pagkadismaya kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte, na nagsabing hindi nito tutulungan ang mga ilegal na Pinoy sa United States. - Tara Yap
