LOS ANGELES, California - Sa kabila ng nauna nang inihayag ni Pangulong Duterte na hindi siya makikialam, nakiusap ang mga Pinoy sa Amerika na tulungan ang mga undocumented immigrant sa nasabing bansa.
“We just wanted to remind him that undocumented Filipinos are still citizens of the Philippines. They hold Philippine passports,” ayon kay Lolita Lledo, associate director ng Pilipino Workers Center (PWC) sa Los Angeles, California.
Noong nakaraang linggo, sinabi ng Pangulo na hindi niya tutulungan ang mga undocumented immigrant sa Amerika kapag sila’y pinatalsik kasabay ng paghihigpit ni US President Donald Trump sa immigration policies.
Ipinaliwanag ni Duterte na hindi siya makikisawsaw sa administrasyon ni Trump, na kinokondena sa pagbabawal sa mga Muslim refugee na makapasok sa Amerika.

“Hindi pakikialam ang pagtulong sa mga mamamayan mo. Hindi ka nakikialam sa Amerika,” ayon kay Lledo.
Samantala, tuluyan nang tinuldukan ng US government ang kumakalat na balita na mayroon pang siyam na bansa na kabilang sa listahan ni Trump para sa 90-day immigration ban.
Sa isang pahayag nitong Pebrero 3, nilinaw ng US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) na tanging mamamayan ng Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Iran, Somalia, Libya, at Yemen ang “affected by the 90-day temporary pause on travel, with case-by-base exceptions and waivers, as outlined in the President’s Executive Order entitled ‘Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States’.”
“Importantly, these seven countries are the only countries to which the pause on entry applies. No other countries face such treatment. Nor have any other countries been identified as warranting future inclusion at this time, contrary to false reports,” ayon sa pahayag. (Tara Yap at Antonio Colina IV)
